Where are we going to live in retirement? At least half of us are going to sell up, move on and downsize. We move for various reasons. Some of us are downsizing because we are now empty nesters. The children have left home and we can do something better with our time then cleaning a big house and maintaining a large yard. Some of us move because we want to live in a warmer climate. In the USA the move is south closer to Florida.

In Australia the move is north closer to the Gold Coast in Queensland. Moving from a cold climate to a warmer one generally means a saving on energy costs, time saved from shovelling snow and looking forward to not have to drive on icy roads.

For others we just want to travel and will be away from home more often so a smaller house or apartment will be easy to be away from.  Some of us have families that have moved far and wide. Both of my children have moved interstate. I won’t be relying on them in my retirement. It is up to me to provide a place to base myself for my next adventures. Somewhere I can still be able to jump on a plane to visit the family. The attraction of a warmer climate combined with a cheaper cost of living have us even moving to another country as Keith and Tina Paul discovered when they retired early and achieved their dream lifestyle.  Whatever the reason we are on the move in retirement.

When we finally make that decision to relocate we nearly always have to sell first before we can afford to move on. Getting a great price will determine where you can afford to buy. For many of us the family home is the single biggest asset in our life that we own, and unless you are an experienced property investor who is used to buying and selling properties you may be facing a dilemma. Just as you may go to a financial advisor for advice on investing so too you should be looking for an expert in their field, a real estate agent that will be on your side when you make that decision to move on.

Today’s guest is Aaron Hendon, a Seattle Realtor, real estate investor, author, educator and speaker. He is the managing partner of Christine & Company and has won many awards in the Seattle Real Estate arena. Aaron’s passion for all things Real Estate is obvious and I pleased to share his experience with you and hope it ensures selling that much loved home is seamless and profitable.

Enjoy the episode.

Bye for now
